Lead in the Middle of the Mess
Clarity, courage, and momentum when everything is loud
Some weeks, leadership feels like directing traffic in a storm. Everyone needs something, everything is “urgent,” and somehow you’re still expected to show up inspired, clear, and kind. That’s the job. But the secret is this: the best leaders don’t wait for things to slow down. They create clarity inside the noise.

What every leader needs right now
Clarity over volume. Your team doesn’t need more info; they need to know what matters this week. Name the three outcomes and repeat them everywhere.
Calm is a performance skill. You set the room's nervous system. Take 90 seconds. Breathe. Then walk in.
Lead by visibility, not proximity. Tell people what you’re doing and why. Narrate decisions.
Develop the person, not just the role. Ask: “What do you want to be trusted with next?” Then give a stretch.
Protect your own practice. If you’re too busy to learn, you’re too busy to lead.

Try this this week
Monday intention (5 min): three outcomes → share.
One courageous conversation: feedback, clarity, or gratitude → 24 hours.
Leadership rep: read or listen, then share one takeaway with your team.
Close the loop: tell them what was decided and why.
Leadership in today’s climate
People are tired of “do more with less.” Give them “do more with focus.” Kill work that doesn’t serve the strategy. Give line of sight. Give growth. Start by keeping your own commitments.
Action for the week: pick one area where you’ve been leading on autopilot and bring it back to intention. Maybe it’s your 1:1s, your standup, or your own calendar. Name the purpose, tell your team, run it that way for seven days, and watch what changes.
